Peels    

Our medical grade peels contain Glycolic & Lactic Acids. These acids belong to a class of substances called Alpha hydroxy acids [AHAs.]  AHAs are naturally occurring substances found in different fruits, sugar cane and sour milk. Glycolic acid is found in sugar cane, while Lactic acid is found in milk. Both have a special ability to penetrate the skin and have beneficial effects.

AHAs work by loosening the bond that holds together the top layers of the epidermis. This intense exfoliation helps the body remove the excess build-up of dead surface cells and cleanses the pores. AHAs help skin renew itself by increasing the rate of cell proliferation and stimulating collagen and elastin production. This allows fresher, healthier looking skin to emerge. Continued use of AHAs formulations improves the appearance of skin of dull, oily and acne prone skin, improves wrinkling, roughness, & texture, and reduces photodamage, pore size, and discolorations in the skin.

"Chemobrasion," is the scientific term for a chemical peel that involves applying specific chemicals to the skin under supervision by a physician. We have light and medium peels in 10% to 30% concentrations to remove only the top layer of dead skin cells, the stratum corneum. Our stronger peels include 50-70% glycolic acid and the new Vipeel. Chemical peels have proven beneficial in diminishing freckles, blotchiness, age spots, fine and deep lines, actinic keratoses, melasma and other cutaneous disorders.

Possible side effects of chemical peels may include tingling, stinging, redness, scabbing, and slight irritation. These may leave skin looking and feeling like a second degree sun burn. Glycolic acid, AHAs and other cosmetics intended to exfoliate the skin should not be administered to skin exhibiting apparent irritation, extreme sensitivity, open sores, cuts, abrasions, sunburn or chemical-thermal burns or used concurrently with prescribed topical or oral medications without a physicians approval and guidance.
