Affirm Fractional Laser
Cosmetic lasers are proven to effectively treat the wrinkles, photo aging and skin discolorations that time and sun have wrought. In addition to minimizing these imperfections, laser treatment also stimulates collagen production, making your skin appear more supple and full. So even if the years have taken their toll, you can now easily turn the clock back.
A complete skin rejuvenation solution that provides better and faster results, with less pain than any other available product.
Frequent Questions
What is CAP Technology?
CAP stands for Combined Apex Pulse technology. The CAP diffractive lens array provides a unique delivery and distribution of energy to the treatment area.
How does CAP work?
The CAP array is a proprietary lens construction that consists of approximately 1,000 diffractive elements per centimeter square to affect more surface area per single pulse. CAP technology delivers “apex” pulses of high fluence regions for collagen remodeling, surrounded by a low fluence collagen stimulating treatment zone. This combined action improves treatment efficacy, while minimizing the side effects experienced with existing methods.
What does the histology show?
In histology, only the high fluence apex regions are visible. Histologically, the CAP apex pulse energy distribution is limited to approximately 300 microns in depth, constraining treatment to the zone of superficial photo-damage (i.e. the targeted area).
Do you need to use anesthesia with the Affirm?
No. Cynosure’s SmartCool air cooling system attaches to the Affirm 1440nm as well as to the XPL. The air cooling increases patient comfort and avoids the necessity of using any topical anesthesia.
How many passes are needed for a full facial treatment?
Cynosure’s Affirm system typically requires 1-2 passes to ensure overlap, in addition to enhancing outcomes for the patient and the doctor.
CAP vs. Other Technologies?
Other technologies only provide high fluence treatment columns of thermal coagulation. Affirm’s CAP technology provides a combination of high-level fluence surrounded by low-level fluence. High-level fluence enhances collagen remodeling while low-level fluence is stimulating collagen production.
Is Affirm the same as Fractional systems?
The Affirm system from Cynosure has numerous characteristics that differentiate it from a fractional system.
No blue tracking gel is needed for Affirm.
There is less pain associated with the Affirm procedure, due to shallower penetration.
With a fractional-type device, topical anesthesia or nerve blocks are needed. For increased patient comfort, many physicians also use air cooling in addition to the other methods of anesthesia described above. With Affirm 4 out of 5 patients do not require anesthesia.
Treatments are 4X faster with the Affirm. Because of Affirm’s CAP technology and the delivery of energy to the treatment area, typically a maximum of two passes are needed for a full face treatment. Other technologies require more than 5 passes to cover the equivalent surface area.
Note that a 1540 nm laser like the Fraxel® penetrates deeper producing greater and deeper injuries into the dermis where there is a higher concentration of nerve fibers. The larger and deeper tissue injury also requires longer healing, which translates into longer down time.
How does Xenon Pulsed Light (XPL) work?
Facial skin treatment works by directing a beam of light in the visible and near infrared range, from 515 nm up to about 1200 nm, to an irregularity in the skin, such as enlarged blood vessels or irregular chromophore. This removes the abnormality without scarring or damage, while stimulating collagen production to tighten the surrounding tissue, resulting in improved skin texture and reduced signs of aging
